This site was launched to answer a very simple question: Does hypnosis work?
Over the years I’ve struggled with different vices or behaviors that I felt held me back. At different times I’ve tried to combat these behaviors myself with varying degrees of success — unfortunately, none of them permanent.
I have to imagine this is a similar story to anyone reading this right now. You can just walk into any book store and look at the cover of every magazine or check out the size of “Diet & Excercise” section of the bookstore to see that not only one of the most common things we struggle with is our own short-comings, but it also seems like a battle that wages on forever, even if you think you have it solved at some point.
For the first time in my life, at 28, I decided to try hypnosis last year to deal with weight loss and a create a general love of living fit and healthy. I went to three sessions, costing somewhere in the ballpark of $150 a session. All said and done I can say absolutely nothing changed for me — except having $450 less than I had 3 weeks prior.
I went into the exercise very open minded, very willing and very excited. After each session I was probing my mind for changes, probing my feelings to see if they were slightly influenced in 1 way or another.
While I might claim that there could have been a hair of change in some behaviors, there was absolutely no change strong enough to indicate “success”.
As the weeks went on, my frustration built. I read and heard about more celebrities quitting smoking with hypnosis — I even had a friend do it and she has stopped smoking for years.
What the hell was going on? Does hypnosis work or doesn’t it?
Fast forward 1 more year. I’m inside of a Barnes and Noble in San Francisco and see a book about Instant Self-Hypnosis. The title is just catchy enough to sound like a ShamWow commercial, but the book is just short enough that it looks like an easy read. I decide to pull it off the shelf and glance through it.
Long story short, I decided to buy the book and give it a try. How much can it hurt to try this for 30 days… and then the idea for the site was born: Engage as many people as possible into this 30-days-with-hypnosis experiment, and see if it works.
And here we are…
While we have announced our first hypnosis challenge, this site is meant to be a long-term source of information structured around hypnosis, success with hypnosis or lack of success with it. I want to grow a community of people wanting to get involved with hypnosis and hypnotherapists willing to contribute their time to better engage and educate the community.
I’d like this to be a helpful hypnosis resource to anyone interested.
If you would like to be involved in one of the challenges, have an idea or recommendation for one of the challenges or just want to share an experience you had with hypnosis, please contact us.
Enjoy!
